Hi, I’m Chef Ian!

Chef & Founder of French Foodies Society

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had two big dreams: to live in France and to open my own restaurant. In 2016, I achieved both at once by launching a cozy 30-seat bistro in the Charente region, about an hours drive north of Bordeaux. Despite arriving with no professional culinary training—and barely speaking a word of French—I quickly discovered that good food transcends language. Locals and expats alike embraced our eclectic mix of British favorites (think fish & chips and curry) alongside rustic French cooking.

Three years later, I moved to a larger location overlooking a motor racing circuit. There, I honed my culinary skills even further by catering to supercar enthusiasts seeking top-quality cuisine. Although the challenges of running a restaurant ultimately led to personal changes in my life, I continued my culinary journey in France, working as a private chef in the Trois Vallées area—Meribel and Courchevel—where I cooked in the ski chalets of the rich and famous.

I’m originally from Manchester, England, and now my work takes me far and wide. From private dining (including cooking for professional footballers) to serving as head chef at a boutique hotel in the far northwest of Scotland, I’ve come to love the variety and experiences that each new role brings. I truly believe that if you love what you do, it never feels like work.

I founded French, Foodies Society as a one-stop hub for all things French food, wine, and gastronomy. My goal is to help others explore the richness of French cuisine—whether it’s through online coaching to boost confidence in the kitchen, or through deep-dives into the country’s gastronomic traditions. I also plan to host private dinners and, in spring 2026, offer a full French immersion holiday in the Southwest of France.

I look forward to sharing my passion for French cuisine with you and helping you create unforgettable culinary experiences—no matter where in the world you call home!
